If your slave`s income is negative, you won`t lose anything neither gain any money, and there is also an option to send reinforcements incase your slave gets attacked. To set your slave free go to their empire`s sumary and click on `Set Free`
it also stops this empire atacking you till they break free requiring 10x your PR
you gain 15% of their income , you can also punish them 5x a day costing 10 turns per punishment ( drops loyalty ) and reward them depending on how many planets they have ( under the condition the money is in your tribute storage )
