First of all let me say that I am wearing my fireproof suit, so flaming will not get you anywhere on this topic (I know a few of you will try anyway). Here are my top 5 real time strategy games.

1. Empire Earth 2- If you haven`t tried this game yet, I highly suggest it. Play this game for a few weeks and I promise you that you will never go back to Age of Empires. Beautiful graphics, enjoyable and challenging SP campaigns, excelent MP options, and by far the best interface I`ve come across. Simply put, this game is the complete package, especially if you get the expanison pack, which adds some really usefull features, such as the ability to draw up and auto execute detailed war plans, and the ablity to create custom races.

2. Starcraft- Hard to beat a classic. While games such as AoE and Empire Earth focus on lots of features and widgets, Starcraft is like chess. It uses a simple interface with just a few races to create a surprisingly deep game. There is a good reason why Starcraft has maintained and even increased in popularity over the years while so many others have faded away.

3. Age of Empires II: Age of Kings- A great game in and of itself, more interesting perhaps was the spinoff game Galactic Battlegrounds. GB took the AoK engine and used it to create a great star wars game (actually the only real star wars strategy game prior to Empire at War).

warcraft 3 is only alive nowadays due to DOTA , that pawnd so badly i spent days just pawning on that

C&C will always be my favourite , AoM was way too easy but its sweet as sweet can be

as for the titan comment , kinda agree , recall it being ubber , but forgot all the details on it

what about warcraft III?

4. Age of Mythology: I recomend sticking to the basic game. The expansion pack changes the whole point of the game from building a strong empire to racing to get an uber unit called a Titan (basically a glorified monements game). Minus the cruddy expansion, the basic game is loads of fun and features the best sp campagin since starcraft.

5. Command and Conquer- I place this here because unfortunately I just haven`t had the time or money to play most of the C and C games yet. Once I actually get my lazy self around to playing them, the C and C series may move up the list.

There you have it, my ultimate top five. Other runners up include homeworld, Empire at War, and Battle for middle earth. Like C and C I haven`t yet played these games, C and C gets a sepcial place due to its historical significance and enourmous popularity.

If anyone wants me I`ll be over here in this flame retardant bunker.
