Death of Sci Fi television

They just announced that Battle Star Galactica will not have another season after the fourth. In the last 5 or six years we`ve lost Farscape, Star Trekk, SG1, and now BSG. That leaves SG Atlantis as the sole surviving Sci Fi drama on TV (I know Dr. Who is still around, but its not the same thing). Let us all take a moment to mourn the death of TV.

Uh.... this is about sci-fi, lets not wander into politics and ruin this thread with flaming.

I think the biggest problem is that the sci-fi channel got to sucessful for its own good. In the beginning the netowork left things alone, after all sci-fi would never make money. Once it became a sucess the network suits saw dollar signs and started to change the programming to more `mainstream` shows that would make a steady profit with no risk.

Yeah that sucks and my cable company moved the SciFi channel off of the behindog cable package so now I can only get it if I upgrade and pay more for digital cable.

Of course what do you expect in the US where most don`t know or care anything about science or factual inquiry. They would just rather listen to pundits spoon feed them what they should know and think.

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone`s neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

I swear part of the things that happen show wise... is not only networks but politics...

look at shows with presidents who are not white or male... KICK or killed...

this is just a noticed thing from some of the few shows i do watch on TV...

i rarely watch TV but only a few things can get me off my butt to watch them or stay indoors & watch them lol
B BREN
All those blow, sept Dr.Who. I like that :)
K KusariOP
Just to clarify the "official" story is that the show`s creators decided to pull the plug, not the network. Wether or not that is the truth is another matter...

well, in my oppinion, BSG was never realy good anyway, it couldnt compete with BSG-original even with comp-generated special effects. If you consider the advances from Star Treck to NG (and only NG, not DS9, no Enterprise, and for very sure no Voyager) in comparison, BSG su**ed up.

Btw, what the f*** happend to Babylon 5? After A Call to Arms the end seems to inspriarte a continuation of the main story, not a crabpy spin off, which deserved to fail.
T TheShadow
well the fact they don`t care anymore. to dictate even more i don`t care either. I don`t watch Sci Fi no more because they rip off shows. So i don`t care they can become the least watched network ever. If i was some other network i would buy contract to air and make new eposides of those TV shows.

someone said something about good anime o.O what are you on.... I think you should be in CC.... *cough*
O OnDante
Hard to believe. SciFi could be so great, if the guys in control at the top would just be willing to sink a little time and effort into listening to their audience. Battle Star really got a lot of people talking, but then the network brass just pulls the rug out from under it. I think they just want the network to die.

Wait a minute, I forgot I was talking about something on TV. It just sounds eerily familiar . . .
K Kaneda
I know, man. God forbid that series end before they start dragging on and turn to dung.
R Razgriz
ya it sux +(

C CounterCrazy

S ShatterdDreams
sorry i didn`t mean to offend anyone who likes this current generation of sux, ie naruto, inuyasha, and the english Bleach. but anyhow this thread is about Sci Fi.

*ShatterdDreams sheads a tear for SG1*
S ShatterdDreams
*salutes and wonders if all the Sci Fi shows disappeared to the same place all the GOOD anime show went*
