another thing u can do is complete missions. Click mission for your empire`s curent mission. When u reach the expectations, click mission again then click end mission. After u end it you`ll gain loyalty points and another mission.
that and forum browsing. that was a big help when I was first getting started.

that is a very broad question with many answers, you can spend your days exploring planets or reaserching or fighting or talking on the chat, or any combination of those. but if you want someone to show you how you are "supposed` to play, then check the manual, and check out the getting started guide. Also, i reccomend reading the whole manual at some time or another, maybe not all of the encyclopedia, but all of it would be very beneficial.
