just an idea bout changing the way it works instead of resaerching it cant u change it to money so when u get enough money u invest it and it gos up a level sumthing like that :)
reasearch on housing etc

i would make it a mix of time and money as the empire ggrows it will take a small amount of time and then a small amount of money this will make it harder for playes to just research levels and it would make more steps for the reseach rather then the big jumps in turns

Yes thats an idea but think about it alittle...
1) If you were a new empire, how could you afford to increase your research levels? And if you carn`t do that, you carn`t make a decent income and so you carn`t reaserch...
2) If this change is made the well developed empires with alot of cash already and good research levels could poor all their extra cash into research making them even richer.

well alot of people have max money , that would be unfair and way too easy , research is based on the time you put into your empire
