:O CaNnAblsViLLe :O your point just opened up a whole new book in my mind and it seriously isway you can look at it and its really really interesting the way you put it. Wow man really.

Hmm... this argument can be looked at from many different perspectives... sure it can cure diseases however, at what cost? Cloning period is wrong in my belief... not anything religious but it`s just wrong... in the natural order of things there isn`t supposed to be another "identical" me... now you say this has the potential to cure countless diseases... why? Is the world not over populated enough? Are we not depleting our natural resources? Are we not on the path to fully destroy the magnificense that is earth... hmm, let me digress... i don`t believe we can "technically" destroy the earth so to speak, just make it inhabitable for "us" human kind! Read the book called "The Revenge of Gaia"... it`s a fresh look at how the earth takes care of itself and is a "living" organism... think about it people... human kind, or at least most of human kind acts the same way as a virus does... we destroy everything in our path even if it means and leads to our own destruction... there is no other organism on earth that acts this way except for a virus... Earth will evolve... it will take care of it`s own survival... it will evolve... just look at the history... i mean when oxygen was first introduced into our atmosphere it was a poison... yet earth saw that it needed to evolve and create something that would utilize oxygen thus the first creatures that utilized oxygen were created... look at the beauty of the life cycle... we need oxygen to live and expel carbon dioxide, and plants need carbon dioxide and expel oxygen, do you guys seriously believe this is by accident??? The world is over populated by humans and a balance wil be struck whether we like it or not, why is it that so many new diseases have been coming out... how many virus` out there are there now that there is absolutely no cure for? All of us as a race/organism need to take a long hard look at what we as a species are doing to earth before we look at how we can prolong our own lives at everything else expense.

PEoples Ignorance is what makes them block out the reality that it will help us. They care more about the ethics. Listen all of you people who are against it this could provide alot of answers to curing many dieseses, Now do you WANT to stand in the way of saving people and potentialy finding a way to cure people or do you want to let us do what we have to do and make the world a better place.

People who dont agree with these things are slowing the progress of humanity down with there corrupted minds. Ignorance is the ultimate downfall of humanity.

i personaly beleive that stem cells do hold the key for numerous treatments of diseases and i think it is wrong for governments to limit what research goes on. certain degenerative disease like motor neurone diseases, diseases in which the body slowly rots away could be cured by stem cells and there are huge possibilities for such treatment. However i am only speculating and the only way to find out would be to research stem cells,

science tries to find answers to questions, and in chemistry and physics there is no boundaries into which you cannot research, the same should be put into practice for stem cells, although there are ethical issues about this, there are more ethical issues about nuclear power and nuclear weapons yet they have been developed and do exist to this day

And also, Harvard has recently announced a privately-funded program to clone human embryos for stem cell research. A step in the right direction if an answer is to be found.

Before the thread gets canned, I think it is important to clarify where the government stands on the issue. The government has not banned Stem cell research from taking place. The government has simply limited the funding Stem cell research with government money. Now, in a free market capitalist society (or supposedly so), what is supposed to happen is that big pharmaceutical companies or universities or research hospitals decide that they will fund the research themselves because of the potential that they may make a huge scientific discovery and make lots of money for curing cancer or whatever else.

The problem is that there are very few business-minded groups that will step forward and put up the millions necessary to do the research. This is a business decision- the organizations don`t believe it will be cost effective. If stem cells really held the key to curing Parkinsons and ALS and all the other stuff it is alleged to cure, then hospitals and universities would be rushing to get involved because of the tremendous amounts of money they could make from it. However, no one sees a real possibility of making a profit because it is unlikely that stem cell research actually will accomplish anything.

That said, I certainly don`t think it should be shut down. I just think if anyone`s going to do it, they should not do it with my tax dollars.
