its not a bug, how many turns do you use at a time when researching ? Lets see you are paid so i`m guessing 30 at a time yes ?
here is what occurs during that 30 turns
- your population begins to rise
- your food demand increases
- you use up all your food at about turns 5-12
- your population decreases through starvation as you`ve not kept enough reserves to feed a increasing population.
- as your pop dies off you begin to make food again
- will probbaly show as a positive at the end of the 30 turns of food, but somewhere i the middle all those people starved to death.
what can you do to see this is true?
next time it happens stop using 30 turns at a time, instead use one turn at a time for 30 times in total and watch it happen one turn at a time.
What can you do to prevent it ?
Keep a large food reserve, i recommend at least triple your per turn demands for a just in case scenario
