GC Patch #109.4 is live.
The Forum and Help Center, rebuilt
Both boards have been rebuilt from the ground up. Every thread and reply written since 2006 is read in place - nothing was imported, moved or converted, so your old posts are exactly where they were, with their original dates and authors.
- 1,341 threads posted between 2006 and 2023 were unreachable. They predate the current section scheme, so no page could list them and you could only open one if you already had a direct link. They now live in The Archive, where they can be read, linked and searched. It is read-only - new conversation belongs in a live section.
- Search across threads and replies, and a proper section view with pinned threads, lock and pin markers, and reply counts.
- Replies now read newest first, on threads and in the ticket queue.
- Member profiles, avatars and a member list.
- Private messages and notifications, with your own settings page and a subscription on any thread you want to follow.
- Your own Help Center threads in one place - every ticket you have opened, whether or not the section it sits in is one you can otherwise see.
- A staff directory and a rules page.
- Closing a thread no longer edits your post. The old board appended a `thread closed by...` line into the author`s own words, permanently and with no record of who did it. Threads now carry their own state and moderator actions are recorded separately.
- Posting no longer breaks the back button. Refreshing after a post used to post it again.
- Some very old posts contained markup that misbehaved for everyone who opened the thread - in one case disabling the reply box. Posts are now cleaned up as they are displayed, so a twenty-year-old thread cannot break the page it is on. Nothing anyone wrote was edited to achieve it.
- The old board is still there and still works, so nothing you have bookmarked has stopped resolving.
Federation
- New Federation HQ: your federation opens on a single screen with its members, planets, total power and leader across the top, and sections for everything else rather than a page each. The notice board and discussion board both show their latest on the overview.
- Diplomatic Center: who you are at war with, who has declared on you, and declaring war yourself, all on one screen.
- Leadership elections show live standings and your own vote, including what it takes to assume leadership.
- Federation Discussion rebuilt with posting from the board itself, plus a Federation Activity view.
- Member profiles and the join / About This Federation page have had the same treatment.
Battle Logs
Rebuilt on Nebula and Daylight. Each side reads as a combatant rather than a wall of rows, the empires involved show whether they are online, and there is a single-line summary ready to copy.
Fixes
- Research now tells you both things at once. Starting research reported either the result or the turns it used, and the other message was lost.
