Getting onto IRC

So you wanna join all the "cool" people on IRC ehh *cough* well here`s a guide to how to get your grubby mitts on IRC, written by me anyone else has anything to add PM me and i`ll add it in and credit you

How to Connect to IRC

First you need to download a client my client of choice is mIRC mIRC
and the information is written for this client

Once installed
go to file-> select server
click on add
Description: call it 1spacefed
Server: irc.ca.webbnet.info
and leave rest as it is

You`re now connected to the server

First thing to do should be to register your nickname so nobody else can pretend to be you
to do that type in the status tab
/msg nickserv register password
with password being the password you want
now
when you logon to irc you`ll have to input this password but you can set it up to automatically do this and join any channels
(like individual chat rooms)
ok go to tools->options
on the left under connect click options again
Click perform
Tick the box that says enable perform on connect
and in the box labelled perform commands type
/msg nickserv identify password <-- password being the one you typed earlier
/join #spacefed

And any other channels you wish to join


For those that don`t wish a permanent client i prefer of the web based clients a CGI:IRC one
This one is the best of them by far and will connect you ANYWHERE its never failed me yet if a computer has the net it`ll get you on.

CGI

Name: Whatever you want to be called by
Channel: #spacefed
Server: IRC.CA.WEBBNET.INFO

well, the CGI:IRC.. if i gonna connect to sf irc.

i key in my nick, channel is . what about the server n the format?

ete. remember when i was a guide and using the admin channel i used to get a lot of modem crashes/resets? well since i quit the (g) i havent used irc at all until yesterday and i havent had more than 2 modem crashes.

As Aba said just hit continue after the trial periods expired, i find mIRC the easiest client to use as an IRC newbie
Blarg: you hate everyone except yourself as we discussed before but if you want to write a Linux guide without any need for editing by me, then feel free
Max: Not noticed a difference myself its a very small resource using thing a lot less so than msn or any of the others and server problems are a pain i agree.

Anyhow added in a CGI:IRC client for use anywhere including BLARG on linux =P

irc is buggy as hell and slows machines down. thats when its working at all. how many times the ca/fl servers go down for hours and hours?

no u dont have to buy after the trial version runs out...just hit continue still and u can keep using it indefinatly

There are dozens upon dozens of different irc clients. You don`t have to use mirc. In fact, if you do use mirc, that either means you`re using windows, or emulating it. And that means I hate you. For everyone else, I hate you too.

you know for anyone that uses mozilla theres this litle add on called Yakalike that really doesn't takes much, it gives you a chat window on the web page your in, i call that much better than irc, too bad nobody uses it
