Proposed Gordo Solution

So gordoed empires exist, and one could argue that they are a problem in some ways, but I believe we would all agree that it wouldn`t be fair to punish these people who have decided to gordo instead of hoard. The primary reason we haven`t updated anything with gordos and gordoed empires in mind is because, every idea that we`ve seen has seemed unfair to those empires.

So I would like a propose a multi-pronged update with the aim of providing balance to things without taking away what everyone worked for, and that proposal is simply as follows.

  • If you have less than 125 planets, then you may only gordo to 150k land. Updated Point: Existing empires would have their land reduced. Agreement so far: Sibi, Raist, TBK

  • Clustering of c3/c.4s would be changed to work as such:-

C3/C.4`s would gain 15-30% land (with a rare chance this becomes 15-50% land) upon clustering. (An example being you have 5 c2`s totalling 55,000 land and you roll 22% from the land bonus; The C3 would be 67,100 land as a result.) Updated point: Possible Retroactive application using the average value.

  • C.4 Specific information:-

Collectives would see this bonus to all c.4`s they cluster, and c4`s that exceeded 64,000 land would have their planet counts adjusted to land/1000 rounded, or 125 if the number somehow exceeded 125.

Virals would only see this bonus if they already hold at least one c.4, and have over 125 planets. Virals would also have the same planet count rule as collectives if a cluster triggers this bonus land, and exceeds 64,000 land.

  • If you hold over 125 planets then your upkeep is reduced by 10%, until you fall below 125 planets.

    Footnote
I think some people may have misunderstood my initial point, so i`ll make sure it`s entirely clear it`s 150k land across ALL your planets/colonies hence the 125+ planet limit at 150k land.

I agree with Raist and TBK here. Dropping everyone to the established amount makes sense, in my opinion, but it also would be nice for those empires to get something small in return for their lost land. I also like the upkeep reduction idea, and I`m glad to see some positives coming for hoarding empires. That said, I also agree with Sphere that it is a bit awkward that you want to grandfather in empires that have more than 150k land, and there`s talk of you letting them change race/infra, but you`re not willing to adjust a handful of people per server`s land to take into account a new bonus. 15-19% is quite a substantial bit when you have large C3s, and I don`t see why you`re throwing out his idea entirely by saying it isn`t make or break for an empire. Land affects every income type, and 15-19k land (on average) per 100k current land is actually quite a large difference in an empire`s income. I am with Sphere - it would be a definite incentive for me to plunder my C3s down and start over, and getting 3 C3s is not the easiest of tasks. I like these ideas, I would just really like for it to be balanced and fair for both hoarders and gordoers.

Helms Mmm.. not too sure but it couldn`t hurt to discuss it

    TheSphere check your pm`s

BW, I see there were Santo Regalos put in for starting empires, is there a possibility for Santo Gordo`s to be made for the sole purpose of giving those empires the necessary land they will be out when a change happens? if not, then I guess grandfathering those empires will have to happen. Or, take an average of those empires and give everyone else a stash of gordo`s to help bring them closer to those empires. Something to bring the empires closer. I like the proposed changes though,
    B BadWolfOP
Obviously yeah everyone is free to speak up here regarding it, and voice their opinions on it.

So u saying if i clustered all my planets with this new format. I wouldnt be better off. 15% of 200k land is significant land.

What purpose is the random land bonus for. To encourage new hoarders but not established ones.
    S Smooth
The racial switch would only be beneficial if you could take your planets.
    T TranquilSuns
have you asked any gordoed empires if they are on board with any of these gordo caps? I generally see that most of them are on board with capping explorable land to some measure... And it`s very commendable on their behalf.

Can we get a vote or something?
    H Helms{}Deep
I do like some of the changes being presented though, but I would like to see a project, one time only, that allows an empire to change their race and redistribute their infra to adapt to changes being made.
    B BadWolfOP
TheSphere considering i`ve seen zero evidence for that, that`s simply not a good enough argument.
    B BadWolfOP
Helms the issue there is, there`s not enough storage for artifacts to come even close to what some of these empires would lose in that case. Even then it`s just not a fair trade off, bare in mind some of these people physically paid for their land from others even.

My issue comes with stripping something from people, which in all honesty they never could have expected to happen.

Grandfather in gordos empires but not hoarders. Remove random land bonus . it serves no purpose other than killing established emps
    H Helms{}Deep
I dont like the idea of grandfathering in certain empires because they exceed the threshold being suggested. I think if a change is made, those empires should be given artifacts equal to what they would lose if the cap was reduced, that way they can redistribute at will, but make it so there arent super powerful empires that other empires could never hope to get to.
    B BadWolfOP
and that little land increase isn`t going to make or break and empire (Speaking from experience i am one of the most experienced hoarders in GC.)
    B BadWolfOP
Your exact odds of actually getting 50% bonus land under what i proposed is 0.001%, 31% of all clusters would actually fall between 15-19% bonus land.
    T TheSphere
Some of the rand0m land bonus upgrades hurt established hoarders. It forces us to recluster restart. 50% rand0m is quite significant. Even 15% . you say you dont want to take away what people have worked for. Hoarding is arguably much harder than gordoing. And by not giving this random bonus to already clustered c3s. You are taking away for what we fought for. Maybe no rand0m on land cluster. Maybe a different bonus for hoarders if you cant implement it server wide.
    T TranquilSuns
It`s a decent fix. I do like raist idea better, and could disregard the land bonus to clusters as well if everyone under 125 planets were capped at 150k land (which is huge).

Oddly enough, I think many of the huge gordo empires are on board with land caps.
    M mompyuser
I know raist im an bit out of your league.. wait an few years mate it will come to ya
    B BadWolfOP
And if this was the sole update ever proposed/intended to be done. You`d probably be right, however can we focus on ONLY what`s being presented at a time rather than wasting my time on theoretical things down the line?
    R Raistilin
You never have, and apparently never will make sense, Mompy.
    M mompyuser
    I see it this way:
arties are capped at 254 ish
ressearch is capped at 254 ish
    now cap gordo by land..
only thing ya can put turns in is diggin after max ressearch..
so whats the point of usin turns then??

Then ya can built an fleet at 1 bil pr and see world from an vieuw and not playin any more as there is no need for usin turns unless some looks threatenin and ya double tap him.
This can prolly end the UWs as well then wich will unbalance the game even more
