Proposed Gordo Solution

So gordoed empires exist, and one could argue that they are a problem in some ways, but I believe we would all agree that it wouldn`t be fair to punish these people who have decided to gordo instead of hoard. The primary reason we haven`t updated anything with gordos and gordoed empires in mind is because, every idea that we`ve seen has seemed unfair to those empires.

So I would like a propose a multi-pronged update with the aim of providing balance to things without taking away what everyone worked for, and that proposal is simply as follows.

  • If you have less than 125 planets, then you may only gordo to 150k land. Updated Point: Existing empires would have their land reduced. Agreement so far: Sibi, Raist, TBK

  • Clustering of c3/c.4s would be changed to work as such:-

C3/C.4`s would gain 15-30% land (with a rare chance this becomes 15-50% land) upon clustering. (An example being you have 5 c2`s totalling 55,000 land and you roll 22% from the land bonus; The C3 would be 67,100 land as a result.) Updated point: Possible Retroactive application using the average value.

  • C.4 Specific information:-

Collectives would see this bonus to all c.4`s they cluster, and c4`s that exceeded 64,000 land would have their planet counts adjusted to land/1000 rounded, or 125 if the number somehow exceeded 125.

Virals would only see this bonus if they already hold at least one c.4, and have over 125 planets. Virals would also have the same planet count rule as collectives if a cluster triggers this bonus land, and exceeds 64,000 land.

  • If you hold over 125 planets then your upkeep is reduced by 10%, until you fall below 125 planets.

    Footnote
I think some people may have misunderstood my initial point, so i`ll make sure it`s entirely clear it`s 150k land across ALL your planets/colonies hence the 125+ planet limit at 150k land.

@Wingnut Because simply put gordoing has no limit where as everything else in the game has it`s own natural barriers, people in the past and even today have made 200k+, 300k+, 500k+, and some even going to 750k-1million+ land and beyond.

With the fact gordos are far easier to make now, either we do something or we make them 10-100 fold harder, which in itself isn`t really fair when seeking to catch up to anyone.

HEY BW, I think that your on the right track, But there are osme fair points made. You shouldn`t cap the gordos because the grandfathered empires would always have an advantage that the others couln`t possibly catch up to. Instead just offer the bonuses to the 125 and up empires. And like Wing said, you gotta change the planet modifiers on the c3s and c4s to make them more rewarding. Collective for sure.

Why not simply change the modifiers on clusters to make incentive to hoard?

it would be different if they bought gordos from a black market from the game owners. however they didnt. they bought of other players which is a risk. for instance in the rules if you sell artifacts it says about if you send the money and get no artifacts then the game admins can`t do anything and its your own fault. how is this different? you risked something outside the game using money to get ahead and now the loophole is being closed. also in other games this has happened where there actually has been a black market were due to people being richer they had motherships that were so big average players couldnt even damage there ship at all. so yea anyhow

the truth is if sib has 300 k land (I dont know what size he has) and I am only allowed to get to 150 k land c2 then thats unfair. all land needs to be capped. guardians at 300 k land were never envisioned by stephen or any race for that matter.

Okay, read your answer. Explained a lot. Thanks. This makes me excited ^^

So if you have a 150k Tainted C.2, or 150k C2 you can no longer gordo it up...but lets say you have a crabpy C3 then the 150k C2 you can still gordo up the C2 since you`ll have over 125 planets?

It seems the way this needs to work would be to trim all the gordoed empires above 150k land down.. else this really wouldnt work as well. I commend the willingness of those affected empires to lose the weight. It shows genuine support for the admins and the game as a whole.

Other than that, i like it.

If we were to lower the bar to 100k the amount of people this would impact is increased by a lot, and those it impacted already besides those who have spoken up also become hit harder if we go through with land reduction.

All in all if we go through with this we`ll start at 150k, and if in time people still agree it should be lower then we will lower it.
    E EnderWiggin
I would also favor 100k instead of 150k. 100k land is a LOT of land.

Seems the gordoed empires are generally for being cut down. Putting a cap in place would then essentially negate the need for these bonuses on clusters, and the upkeep reduction. I think a suitable number for land size should be discussed for explorable land amounts.

I`m kind of with sibi in that 150k land explorable is pretty huge. 100k will make a decent income and you can pretty much do whatever you need with that kind of land.

I like the cluster bonuses, and will add my voice to those calling for existing clusters to receive the bonuses. As for the gordo cap...

My concern is, the way I see it, there is no way to do this fairly. If existing gordoed empires are not grandfathered in, they lose their hard work and money; if they are grandfathered in, it doesn`t fix the problem they pose, it locks it in place, as they keep their combination of powerful economies and explorability. If existing gordoed empires agree to be cut down to size, this should be done without the grandfathering provision; otherwise, I don`t think it should be done at all.

    Ah okay fair enough

It was more actual confirmation that was required from either you or EE since after reading all the update posts, I thought that was still up for debate.

    Thanks
    B BadWolfOP
Uh.. Omegian that was an idea that was tossed out so that isn`t happening, not sure who told you that it was. If it did happen it`d be on a totally new server.
    O Omegian
Also, side question, will this be tied to how exploration will become in the future where it is total land based rather than planet count?
    B BadWolfOP
    @Omegian - sure i`ll look into it.

Doesn`t need reiteration if i`ve already stated it`s being looked into.

I generally like the proposed update a lot. It doesn`t kill the gordoed empires which are still a viable way of playing when your timeframe for GC changes on a daily basis, which is why I made such an empire. It also closes the gap between gordoed and hoarding empires.

I will vote no to grandfathering empires as it kind of works opposite the intention of the update. The land cap of 150k sounds a little high, but could be fair since you can do larges to 100k as well. Let`s see how it plays out, but setting a 100k restriction on gordoed planets would be alright by me.

I`m curious about how these cluster changes will affect the TB servers. It seem to encourage new hoarders which is good, though it`s a blow for the old ones who might have spent tons of time collecting that will now become sub par.

But all in all I think it`s a very good proposition to deal with the problem without making these gordoed empires obsolete.
    O Omegian
So as an experienced hoarder as well BW, while 10-19% is marginal as you had posted, while there are still other updates coming down the road as far as race economies and upkeep/ship changes. While I don`t want to speculate, I think hoarders are at a disadvantage if not given a one time boost for their clusters albeit 10% across the board to be fair. The reason I state this is really more focused at TB where those who are hoarding are very scarce and clusters taken from empire X are almost even rarer. The reason I see it helps the bottom line.

As far as gordos part, I am fine with that and agree with Raist and TBK. I think 150k is a reasonable number given that most races do reach that land amount if they built 2-3 c2s and had ularges or gordoed ufertiles. While the balance would be a smidge stronger for some races over others, I think that balance will be fixed in future updates.
    B BadWolfOP
Well Stargaters strictly speaking with this and the fact npcs would be in making new c3`s would actually likely be a faster process, considering that you could keep lower land to reach your goals as well.

But that tidbit aside, sure i`ll look into it. But if it`s done it`ll probably be a flat rate of the average, and some clusters would see a really monstrous gain as a result. 130k+ c3`s seeing a huge gain is one reason i was slightly hesitant.
