plundering is mostly done when you are forming colonies.. usually it`s better to keep only planet with more than 800land. That way you can form a 20k plus land C2. So while exploring for better planet, you got to plunder those planet with little land.

and gaining a small amount of credits (unless it is a large colony or you are maruader or collective who receive a boost to plundering). Plundering a colony will decrease your power rating depending on the colony size (about 1,000 per planet)
