I attempted to validate my new account using the link supplied which points to http://gc_2317.gamestotal.com/ and the hostname doesn`t resolve.

Okay, so take the entire web address string and change as follows: (This is an example). The only part that changes is the removal of the "_2317" at the beginning.
http://gc_2317.gamestotal.com/validateemail.cfm?id=500546&code=97178863
Change it to this:
http://gc.gamestotal.com/validateemail.cfm?id=500546&code=97178863
