what does it mean terran dont need goods i making 170 good am i wasting my time on ind.?

Terran make most money though either through commercial (researching commercial) or producing food to sell (researching agriculture).
So you colonies should only build enough housing for enough labor to put in either commercial OR agriculture.
Times when you attack other empire and got their colonies, the colonies might have some infrastructure on industry and therefore you will find yourself producing some goods. It`s alright that way.
