I was wondering when one has multiple retals on a single empire...

Which is taken first, the retal from the most recent attack of the latter-most?

4 retals given one each day....

On the first counter-attack that takes place, does that negate the retal on day 1 or day 4?

Yeah, the most recent counter is the one used.

are you sure? so one the 7th day i will lose a counter even tho i grabbed the first 3 counters.... ??
