The Rally Call
Location: Planet Terra
Date: 2 days after the Battle of System LN23:
“What do you mean, ‘you can’t spare any ships’?! Don’t you realize the seriousness of this situation?!”
The sound of Morgan shouting into his communication panel could be heard all the way down the hall from his office.
“Calm down Morgan,” replied David Nelms, chairman of the Terran Council. “I’m trying my best to convince the rest of the Terran Council to authorize the deployment of a fleet, but you know how things are. Chances are that even if you receive authorization, it won’t be for months.”
Morgan threw his hands up in frustration. “I can’t wait that long. By that time hundreds of worlds may fall to this new threat. We have to nip this in the bud before it begins to grow and bloom into a galactic crisis.”
“What do you plan to do then, admiral?”
“I’m going to have to organize a band of volunteers and attempt to take matters into my own hands. Can I rely on you to assist me, David?”
“You ask a great deal of me, old friend. I’ve known you too long to turn you down though. Yes, I’ll help you. If anyone finds out about my part in this, I will surely lose my seat on the Council.”
“Thank you, I’m sorry to have to ask you to get involved in this. I realize you’re putting a lot on the line for me.”
“Worry not, I could have turned you down if I was that concerned about the risk. Enough of this talk though, we need to get working on putting a fleet together. You’ll need the authorization codes for the shipyards. I’ll pull a few strings and see what I can do. I trust that you can handle the rest?”
“Yes, I’ll take care of everything else.”
“Alright, you should have the codes by this evening. Good luck Morgan.”
“Thanks, I’ll need it.”
