Major Afortunado worked the best when i was terran but i have terrible dig results with them as guard, apollos idea works best for me, 1 major suerte then 1 minor, rinse and repeat.

afortunados are time based while suertes are turn bases
i never used afortunados at the height of my digging days but i would use 1 major suerte every 20 turns and 1 minor every 10 turns
when i hit every dig time i was making 18 gordos a day
spamming 1 type of luck arti does nothing for you but using 1 of each gave me far better results
