Marauders

I`ve been playing Maru for around 7-8 years. What would you like to know, Black?

Marauders are easy, i can survive just fine with food at 1 if i need to. The race is great. Marauders make a little less than half what a Terran does but they have 1/5th the upkeep of a Terran with great ships.

The hardest part is finding borders and start up planets but if you keep at it there will always be something worth keeping. As for borders there is always enough floating around. With a Marauders ship list a person would have to be daft not to win more borders than they lose in a day. They might not be the best planets but they keep you alive.

About 2 years ago i had posted a topic on marus, everyone liked the idea (well most) of there increase in cgs. Now with empires like Ren agri maru is almost useless on rt...but we could still keep the agri for turnbased servers. i notice tb servers cgs are rarly bought (due to the lack of turns i guess?) and have seen them posted at 1-2$ often. So for it to work out we could leave agri as is and just add a + mod to cgs. lots of people buy them not enough people sell..its been this way for years on RT. and the average maru above 5k pr for like the last 5 years is like 6 maybe on rt.

Another thing people mentioned was advertising the game, I know tons of you play other pc games, why not start a small lil forum post about the game and a few might come over. Plus maybe if the Vets were alil more positive about the game maybe they would stay more then a week. I see people post ALL THE TIME "Meh why play this boring dying game" You think its a joke an still play but newer players see this and think wait its dying? then just leave. I wont name any names, but ive seen several people including staff members talk negative to players who are new to the game or just in the general public of chat. Yet there the same people who complain over and over there arnt enough players, how come? Its a game its ment to be fun, you want to be jackasses keep it on msn/skype or hell even vent if you use that. (though i doubt many do? lol) Maybe even missions would be a nice lil touch to Maru...im sure some people would like to play if we added missions..maybe have some of the rewards like gordos..to help with the land issue.

So yeah i think ive said enough, theres so much that can be done without staff and a few with the help of. Maybe if everyone wasnt so negative all the time and instead throw in some ideas. Even if its not helpful for gc (as in nothing staff could do)...there are people out there who are making games like this. It could help them out in the long run..

yeh i never understood why viral is amongst the hard races to play. it should clearly be terran aminer viral guardian marauder collective

I play Marauder on Fast, and I plunder, times are tough :)
Not alot of targets down low.

Its much easier to explore for borders so Marauders have to be active every day - for more than a few minutes. I think this explains the main reason why not many play it. I think if there was a larger player base this would lead to more targets and then more would play it.

I started a marauder empire a while back, enjoyed it, had a lot of fun hunting for borders. My only complaint was the max colony count of 10.
Assuming an ideal setup, which would be a spaz home world for digging, a modest c2, then a fert, that leaves you with 7 spaces for colonies.

In my attempt to make a c3, I used up 3 of those other 7 spaces making a few more c2s. left me with 4 spaces. (6 if you consider winning 3 while at 9 colonies.) By the time I have 4c1s 4c2s, a spaz, and a fert. there ya go, 10 cols, no room for borders, no room to get that last c1 for the c3.

Increase max colony from 10 to 11.

I know the low col size is supposed to be a part of the difficulty of playing as a marauder, but I think the increase to 11 isn`t too much to ask.

I am coll and like you can not explore and I am still alive. So I don`t think that is the reason people do not go that race right now. What I do think though is that in order to have a strong coll maru you need decent land if you get into food production, and that is a little time consuming.

yea hard to get decent clusters when you can only get colonies by attacking and theres not many people to attack.

Or just not enough players to go marauder?
