as a viral what would be the point of RE`ing shark over chlor , when the shark maybe less upkeep but the chlor has positive shields but single damage type and 400 less pr then shark with with 2 damage types and only +40 ecm shields and negative mods.....

Even on turn-based I have found shark to be incredibly useful. It`s not a ship that only has a role in 10 stacked fleets, in fact it`s pretty darned versatile, even in small stack # spams.

I guess the rationale is, unless otherwise specified most people assume questions are coming from RT (thus the RT-related responses). In this case, if ForsakenWolf was talking about a TB server then the importance of turn efficiency would be more important as you say.

However I believe he`s on RT, and turn efficiency goes out of the window at some point depending on how much time you have to build.

SystemFailure: I dont think I am ignorant. I know very well that people play this game for different reasons. Some want to build beautiful stacked fleets to get what they consider beautiful wins, some care about the win/loss ratio, some want to have tons of crab planets and some care about controlling a server.

When playing a TB server with the purpose of controlling a server, the tiger and shark are useless. You dont build a 10 stacked fleet if you want to be turn efficient and there will always be better options than those two ships when you build your fleet. I think the turn efficiency is what makes the difference from TB to RT, and it is also the reason why most people who majorly have played at RT dont recognize or understand this.

There`s no `def re list` there`s only a general build you should follow to fill roles you need.. shark and chlor both fill a single role which you only need one ship to fill so it`s a moot point to grab both
I ImaVirusOhNoz
so is there a def RE list for viral or has eveyrone just playd a off viral?
R Renegade
Be kinda silly to take both, then you lose a great offensive ship slot.
I ImaVirusOhNoz
barr did murder one of the V.class when i was trying to RE it but yea ;p so what about chlor and shark together for a def stack?
F forsakenwolfOP
When I played viral before the Only reason I had barra is to block of viral attacks with a stack and that`s about it
S SystemFailure
i duno pistolpete u seem pretty ignorant on virals :/ barracuda is only good in theory end result it`s dunge the only real maru choices are pyth pike shark tiger imho

Fair points, sir.

The biggest things I like about Sharks is that they are incredibly cheap, reasonably quick build rate, and nothing can clear them 1:1. Makes one of the best choices for a high hull ship, and also incredibly effective for any high pr viral holding a fleet. The upkeep is especially important because Virals are a very poor race everywhere where tax isn`t viable. Which is 4 out of 5 servers. And the food on the 1 server is dependent upon one empire.

Kaworu.. When i say RE baracuda over the other ships its based on my personal experience playing a TB server for years with a big viral. When turn matter the most the most important stats are dmg/turn and effective hull/PR. (Effective hull it the combination of shields and base hull).

Anyway.. What i try to say is that the most efficient way to play in the ranks at times when turns matter will never be to build any of the options we are discussing... Shark is a terrible ship to deal deal damage with, so is chlor. What you will need to do is to spam your caps and maybe some v.class if you have a good idea that you can capture some turns. That is Herc, Flysch, pyth, tyr, lyth and maybe nirv. And when you are building these fleets it is more valuable to build some relatively weak dummies that are immune to fez.

Of course if you are having trouble keeping your planets and dont play to hold the ranks shark or chlor may be a good option.

Having 3 queen killers a nice thing though even at RT. Ive sometimes been in a situation were i have a counter on a guy sitting high in the ranks. You know they most likely have a stack or two of fez. If you can build 3 stacks that has the likelihood of killing the queen stacks you way better off. Then afterwards you can start spamming something to shoot the rest down.

After running multiple tests in the sim and crunching numbers I have come to the following conclusion concerning chlor vrs shark and this is what I have found.

My name is {DG} and I approve this message...

Lol fighting over if shark or chlor is better. L2Kclass.
T TranquilSuns
I did and I have, Even pairing it up against common missile ships to give it the benefit of the doubt. It`s cheap, but otherwise not great.

Having an abundance of hull doesn`t compensate for the fact that it can`t shoot back with much effectiveness. I would suggest taking another look yourselves.

Tranquil - Perhaps you should investigate race mods, and then use GY`s battle sim, found at http://cb-clan.de/sf/battle.php - and start testing ships against other common ships before you spout nonsense :(.

Wolf - Yeah pretty much. Cuda is a terrible ship for virals mostly, while Pike and Pyth are the two best Maru ships by far (That virals can rev eng), and silly cheap.
T TranquilSuns
Say what you will, take the shark and use it, i`ll never lose to you though lol
W wolf359
Does it have to be pike and pyth? Why not shark, tiger, cuda?
A AccordEX
TranquilSuns is also a big newbie, so don`t listen to him.
T TranquilSuns
Chlor is better. Shark is bad.
