A simple fix for a big problem

Any of you who play RT know, there just aren`t enough resources to go around. There is a constant demand, but a very limited number of suppliers for just about everything. To his credit, stephen has tried to fix this but so far nothing has seemed to work. Perhaps that`s because the soulution isn`t something we need to ADD but something we need to REMOVE.

In the real world shortages occur, but they are infrequent and rarely last unless there is some mitigating factor involved. So why is there a constant shortage here? Anyone with even a small knowledege could give you the answer: Price Caps. In the real world, as supplies of something become scarce, prices increase. As that happens, the number of people who can afford the resource decreases, and eventually prices begin to fall back down. The market cycles up and down between extremems, but most of the time prices will be somewhere in the middle.

In GC there are mandatory price caps. That means that suppliers rwach a point where they can no longer increase prices, even if the demand continues to climb. As a result, demand quickly outpaces the suppliers ability to produce and the market sells out. By removing the price caps we could solve much of this.

Yet another benfit of a truly open market is increasing the number of suppliers. As the price of a resource increases, more and more people will try to cash in on the boom, helping to increase the available supply.

All I ask is for a trial run. Just remove the price caps for a month or 2 and watch what happens. I think we will all be pleased with the results.

nah have a market, and black market where you can have unlimitted price ;) so 1 good can cost 10000000 or 1 mineral can cost 100000000, though only people with a paid account can post supplies onto it but anyone can buy

or u could bring the cap back to 10k :P

.... That would work killer, but then no one would be aspha I bet heh :P

just install a black market where mins cost 1800 ea to buy from and food 25 ea cgs 6 ea rm 4 ea etc...

Hybrid, maybe due to the fact the GC update is more than 2 years over due and UC gets an update every other day! (yes, i might be going overboard but it`s the truth =P)

and i`ll just leave it at that cuz i don`t want to be silenced again for stating the obvious about Stephen!

what makes you think he dosent care

Removing the price caps would probably help reduce the shortage, but it`d also make minerals way too expensive for newbies / people who can`t spend much time on the game.
Other solutions can be found easily (most minerals list + arti to destroy minerals, tax on large market buys, lower caps on minerals, adjustements on a.miners, etc.). Stephen just needs to sit down 15 minutes and think about it; but that can only be achieved if he starts to actually care about GC and its problems again.

species382: lol all those combine together is really going to make the soup bad
S species382
remove price caps, reduce max credit/minerals caps, and introduce an artifact killing minerals+ introduce a list: most minerals, and refurbisch the a.miner ships. That should help.

All i know is that the market is terrible, where is all the white crystal. lol

dont remove dineros they are handy for helping freinds in debt and bankrupting your enemys so they cant afford a counter

We got to get stephen attention first... these solutions are old just that not one of these solutions are being tried out

*Thinks of the UC`s blackmarket

remove dineros and problem solved or at least remove richlist. there are people on rt that always get like 30 dineros as soon as they end up on richlist, no wonder they buy every mineral they can get a hand on ...

or he could easy up on mineing mods of 1 or 2 of the other races and have another race that is good at produceing them. new players allready find it hard to afford 1k per unit minerals. the horders are just trying to protect there credits from artifacts. hmm just a thought.

PS, I also have a solution to the very rich players hoarding resources and keeping the markets empty. Charge a per turn `tax` for every unit of a particualr resource a player has over a certain amount, say 100 million. A. miners would be exempt from this tax since they are the priciple suppliers, and so you could provide another incentive to play as a miner as well.
