I always favored being an agri-viral myself ... probably only doable on rt.

I had one on DM, though it was an miner. With 650 planets about 200k land. I was only making like 70 mill a turn, but it was fun.. base was huge.

it`s a rule of thumb. Explorable for virals on RT server is around 64 planets or so. The reason why tax virals going nonexplorable is risky is because of base PR.

your base PR gets very high if you are a tax based empire and it will be hard to get borders. Recall that your PR determines who you can attack. If your base PR is high to begin with, then you can attack less people and in general attacking is harder.

It`s all about the borders.

food is fairly cheap right now, and as long as we dont get any more market manuipulation it will stay that way, tax is looking pretty sweet

Being tax lets u earn more than comm with the same land and infra research.. Therefore to sustain your fleet cost and upkeep, a comm will go for more land which normally is more planets/clusters, unless u plan on gordoing (artifact).. as gi mentioned, after u reach a certain number of planet blah blah blah..

Being explorable means being able to explore planets for borders as opposed to fighting for borders. After a certain number of planets, exploring just isn`t worthwhile.

my rule of thumb is:

if you plan on being explorable be a taxer

if you plan on being unexplorable be commerce.

Before I switched to maru I was a comm viral and made decent enough of an income, with max research and about 100k+ land i was making around 10mil/turn, if I remember correctly

Comm viral is a choice best on RT, And ultra (due to food price tbh..)

but generally tax will win out (even on RT if food stays low enough)

Its really not the best option out there. But you don`t have many options. EH. Hoarding lots of land.. aka BW with like 100k each c3 lol...
