I agree, I`d be happy with guardians requiring to eat some form of food. Just the balancing out of the change in the economy and ship upkeeps, trying to keep it within fair / tolerable limits would be ghastly.

Guardian is the n00b race. They are supposed to be independent of the market, just like commercial terrans.
