i posted a similar question some days ago... and while i found the declare independence button worked for me... what happens if you can`t rise 10x above the one who enslaved you and asking them nicely doesnt work? hehe
Also yes, the empire could possibly attack you if they choose to if you are no longer their slave empire.. they might even choose to enslave you again.
If you declare independance it`ll mean that the empire that enslaved you will no longer be your master, therefore he`ll not recieve tribute from you. Also, your master has the choice to send reinforcements to their slave empires occasionally, so obviously you`ll no longer have that reinforcement opportunity.
