Hello, I used to play this game a few years ago but could not really catch on to it. Labratmaze was the one who got me started on it. Anyway, I wanted to pass along the very sad news that Labratmaze passed away on Christmas day. He loved this game very much. He was unable to get out much and space fed helped to ocuppy a lot of his time. If you could pass this along to any that he may have called friend I know he as well as I would be grateful. Thank you.

Labrat was a really nice guy, so this is truly sad news, he will be missed alot by many who classed him as a friend.

Wow, thanks for the kind words guys. I know that Larry would appreciate all that has been shared. His obituary can be seen here: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/newbernsj/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=155225215

There is also a guest book at the obituary site if you`d like to leave a message.

AlphaCentauri - I sent you the message because I wanted all the leaders of each fed he was a member of to be aware that he had passed. I tried to send a message to the leader of your fed but it would not go through for whatever reason.

I will certainly miss him as he was truly a great friend. As a fellow gamer (I`m a Weewar man) I knew that he had made some friends here and I would hate to think of any of you left hanging at his disappearance. He and I used to work in a Lab together before he retired and became really good friends. He was 20 years older than I so he kind of became like a big brother to me. I would visit him every month or so and every time I came around he would help me through my latest crisis whether he realized I had one or not. I can still remember him sitting in his computer chair with Space Fed in the background on his monitor. Not long after hurricane Irene hit our coastal area, (North Carolina) I went to see him for what i did not know was the last time. He told me that he had gone to the emergency room during the hurricane (he had some breathing issues and was on oxygen) but that he was doing much better and he seemed like the same ole Larry. Before I left he asked to shake my hand and said "just in case I don`t see you again". How I wish now I would have hugged him! It is a void that will never be filled for me I`m afraid. I know now that I have a much better appreciation of what friends I have living and will be sure to let them know how I feel about them. Anyway, due to his oxygen use, he was unable to get out much and Space Fed was something that filled many hours of his time as some of you may well know. Thanks again guys.

Toon94, thanks for sharing this news with us. I know that for most people that play this game, the only reason they stick around for so long is because of the people that they`ve met in this game. Even though I`ve never seen another GC player in real life, I`ve made plenty of friends here. I am sure it was the same for labratmaze.

I`ve always had this idea in my head that most players in GC were young, healthy people in their 20s, but it just goes to show you the diversity of players we have. Sometimes i ask myself, why am I wasting so much time on this game, but now I realize, as long as you are having fun, it doesn`t matter how you spent your time.

RIP Labratmaze

I don`t know what to say. I`ve known Lab since 2005 when I started playing, or was it early 2006 when I started fighting against him. He was a great guy and always had time to chat on MSN and just mess around.

I hope his family are going ok after this great loss. He will be sorely missed, hel I will miss him alot

Take care Lab, where ever you are my friend.

How very sad:( I didn`t know Labrat but its obvious how many lives he touched in gc. And all your feelings for him make it obvious why he was happy here.

RIP Labrat
S SPIKER
SPIKER sits and stares into the skys , wipeing tears from his eyes , knowing how things can change in a blink , of an eye . one day there , the next day gone . Man this really saddens me greatly , : ( , a friend passes on . Labrat and i became great friends during a G/C event , we both were in an all TERRAN alliance , there we learned of each other and respect for each other . Standing with each other fighting off the others . A C/C member him , and a Distemper member , I !! Man how we laughed about it . Sure going to him !!!! You see i know , i lost my wife MELODY a year ago . when it comes to people you know , care and luv , you never fill that void when they pass on . you have good days and bad days . all you can do is hope foris that some day you , we will all meet again . so until that day LABRAT , huggs and luv , from your friend , until the end , SPIKER : )

I am sorry to hear this news. I have the utmost respect for Labrat. We have always been on opposing sides (except fighting against the last UW) and so did not have many conversations. I pray for his family and friends that they may cope with the loss of their loved one. Goodbye Labrat, I am truly saddened.

Thanks for giving us some more information, Toon.

I will sorely miss Lab.

I`m sure some of you have noticed often that in every class during school or every work place, there is always one person that no one really dislikes, whether they are on your side or not. For GC, that person was Lab.

Even though he was one of GC`s greatest players and took the game seriously enough to become so, he never took it as more than a game, one of the few people I remember who never got angry at any battle or turn of events, and he was nice to everyone I ever saw him speak to, friend or foe.

It was my honor to have him as a friend and fedmate and to fight alongside him for more than 5 years now across multiple servers.

My condolences go out to his family and loved ones the most. Losing a friend is hard, losing one on Christmas day is even worse.

Rest peacefully Lab, bless your soul.

Thanks toon94 for following up with this thread. You`ve shared with us a tragic event that would have never have been known to us had it not been for you, and I think it`s safe to say that the GC community who has known him is grateful to you. Your story has deeply touched me personally, and reminds me why it`s so very......very important to treat goodbyes as possibly the last one we will ever have when we know they may not have much time left.

I envy you in a way. Two weeks from now will be the one year anniversary of my grandmother`s death. The last time I saw her, she was in a bed, and even though she was conscious and capable of understanding what was going on, she could not speak or move around very well because of her Alzheimers and was confined to her bed most of the time in her last days. I said my last goodbyes and hugged her, but it pained me so much to see her in the condition that she was in. I was told that she died very peacefully, in her bed, surrounded by the family and friends who were able to come. That`s the sort of death I want to give my loved ones when I die.

You may have wished for your last memories and goodbyes to have gone better, but believe me when I say it could have been a lot more painful.

Again, you have my thanks for following up on this thread.

Also, thanks admins for putting up the banner in honor of Labratmaze.

don`t believe everything you read on the forum

One of his last words to me..

Goodbye Labratmaze, you were a kind and humorous man, a good opponent and one of the few in this game that wasn`t a sore loser. You`ll be missed.

I`m honestly speechless..... Rest in Peace old buddy.

+1 to Rag. Make it so, admin?

Many thanks to toon94 for passing this information along. How many other players have suddenly stopped playing because they died in real life, but all we know is that they went "inactive" and stopped logging in? We will never know, but this is the first I`ve ever heard of an untimely real life death in the GC.

I think that this is worthy of a banner message with a link to this thread so that the GC community will be properly notified as a whole and may pay their respects.

Very sad. Very said.

RIP to the account holder of Labratmaze. You will be missed.
