Here ya go.
First...when referencing some item sliced...I mean thin sliced. As thin as you can get it. Slice it thin, then slice the thin slice thinner.
1. Cast iron skillet...put heat on low. When the skillet is too hot to touch, but not hot enough to burn your finger when touching it...that`s where you want it.
2. Place two slices of buttermilk bread in pan. Note...no oil, butter etc in the pan or on the bread.
3. Forget about the bread for a minute...it will not burn. trust me. Now...slice four 1"X1" pats of butter. 12 pieces of Sharp Cheddar cheese, two slices of tomato. Remember...slice thin, then slice slices thinner.
The above time from placing bread in pan and finishing slicing everything should be about 15 minutes or so.
4. Turn over bread..should be lightly brown...or at least crisp to the touch. Place butter on bread. On the butter...one drop each side of vanilla extract. one small drop each side.
5. Lay on the cheese. Starting with the outside first. DO NOT go over sides of bread with the cheese. Use 6 of the 12 slices. Then the two slices of tomato, the the next six slices of the cheese.
6. The unused bread slice use as the top.
7. Walk away. Seriously...walk away for 20-30 minutes. if the heat of the skillet is correct...hot but ot enough to burn...then you can walk away and forget about it until the timer alarm sounds.
8. 20-30 minutes, go back, flip it over...walk away.
Note..at no time has the pan or the outer part of the sandwich had butter or oil. Straight up plain.
9. After 20-30 more minutes..the cheese should be melted throughough into the bread, the flavor of the vanilla, cheese and tomatos mixed and melted together..
10. Flip it on a plate, cut diagonally...
Voiloa!
Perfect Flshy`s Not Yet World Famous Melted Cheese Sandwich. Enjoy.
