Empire Income Changes Proposal

I think that given the fact that commercial Terran empires make up the majority of new empires, I say we need to give Terrans a very nice boost in commercial production.

We all know that as far as income paths go, commercial is by far the worst path you can take despite the security it gives. Despite this, this is the path recommended for all the newbs, yet by the time they realize that fact, they`ve already committed several months and/or many hours into the game. Even commercial empires who`ve been around forever and accumulated tons of research and planets have only mediocre incomes at best compared to taxers and food producers.

So I say help the newbs for once and give a bonus to commercial terrans. Nothing crazy, maybe 10-20% bonus to commercial in line with their agriculture bonus.

I don`t recommend it, but if you want to take anything away for balance purposes, maybe decrease agriculture from 20% to 10% for terrans and increase agriculture boost to collectives to make up for overall food loss.

Also, marauder and even collective needs a massive boost in plunder in order to make that income path more viable for the long term. I`m talking on the order from +400% to +800% or even higher. This is because out of all income paths, going plunder is the ONE way to assure you will NEVER make it even on the lower levels of the rich list, and definitely a way to assure that you will never UW. Low numbers of players only exaggerate this problem.

It`s so bad that MARAUDERS of all races are preferring to go AGRICULTURE instead of PLUNDER of all things. They are MARAUDERS!!! NOT FARMERS!!! Yet every marauder UW ever done by an agriculture Marauder. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!!

I don`t know if this is a "requires Stephen" change or not. If so, I apologize for wasting your time. But if admins can somehow swing these proposed changes (or something similar), then as long as the changes are for the positive, then I applaud any efforts.

when i read things like this, im reminded of something a great man once said, "remove viral".

Comments about commerce Terrans contributing nothing to the game are uninformed, since when does participation in the market become the barometer? The benefits of commerce are negated by its inefficiency, living outside of the market is a double-edged sword.

Instead look at the economic proficiency of existing terrans versus their peers, and whether an income boost could lend parity among economies.
F FlashysDomain
Out of curiosity, what is considered "not very high income" ? What`s considered ":decent" amongst the various races?
R Raistilin
No problem grant, however on reflection I can see where it sounds like I was being a bit terse. I apologize for that.

If nothing else, the commercial terrans that don`t contribute anything to the game are the ones that forever sit around exploring/researching/digging for 5 years and never fight. :P

AC, we all know that slow server is a special case due to the especially small player count on that server. The fact that plunder maru UWs succeeded on slow at all is more a testament to the state of the server than the viability of plunder maru UWs. That said, I do stand corrected on this point AC. :P

Also SD, it`s not true that Commercial Terrans contribute nothing to the game. Commercial Terrans, along with Taxers, are the main source of cash in this game. Without credits, you can`t battle. And in order to battle, you must buy minerals. They also buy CGs and small amounts of food as well. Commercial Terrans are a big part of the reason why Miners have an income at all when they supply CGs and Minerals.

with 137 infra and 149k land i was making 10mil a turn comm terran

If any income change, I would probably see Plunder Maru become viable again, otherwise I dont see a reason to increase comm terran modifiers, as SD said, its not really needed.

I think there has been 4 plunder maru UWs if I am not mistaken?
A AlphaCentauri
loof`s and my uw on slow were plunder maru uw`s :) but it was a totally different game back then, you`re right in that it will be very unlikely to happen again
S ShatterdDreams
Commercial is a typically a newbie path yes, Terrans a virals who choose comm are meant to make less because it`s a safe econ route, Commercial empires contribute nothing to the game. It`s true a Comm Terran makes much less that an agri terran but a comm terran can still make enough money to be competitive not to mention they don`t have to worry about making money when food prices plummet below 5 nor do they have to worry about prices as as tax empire would.

I`m pretty sure Plunder econ types were meant for lower pr players at least in the lower mills. and the real problem with plunder econ isn`t the mods themselves, it`s the fact that the player base has shrunk so much that there`s not nearly enough borders to feed a plunder empire well maybe one or two..

I stand corrected, thanks.

You`ve seen the income change, but you never saw an admin do it as it requires stephen.
G grantweep
I think admins can change income paths. I`ve seen it done before at least, without stephen`s direct intervention at least.

I dont think comm terrans should be given an extra boost. They are supposed to suck, because it`s a 0 risk economy stream - the income is always guaranteed. Also, plunder is fine, it`s the low PB not the low modifiers that make plundering a poor income stream.

IF the admins really wanted to make plunder more viable in a more natural way, I have suggested this before: make NPCs that come out of DP now and then that spew off semi decent planets (500+s etc)

Raises hand for terrible plunder maru uw!

"Low numbers of players only exaggerate this problem. "

I think a better word is exacerbate, but you get my point hopefully. :)
