this comes after great post ashylarry on the original DM thread, and im gonna second that notion. however, i dont want to probably triple post on the original thread, moderators probably wont like that. so here is a thread of its own. i played for the first 5 hours getting a tax miner off the ground. woof! i always felt like i was eating my next paycheck:

You used up 300 turn(s) Credit -enough to power your fleet, Food -everything and then some Goods -hah! you dont have goods

... crud

basically how i felt every step of the way, very disheartening. however, it was not impossible! i believe that if food were not provided on the brown market, it would be impossible. and the entirety of the battle i got to see was 3 Hrs of research, followed by 2 hours of fighting a maru 4 times which i got to kill. probably took him alot to amass that C2 with how long DP was for a total of 20 players. i really respect him for doing so well! and eventually me going to bed with two sets of borders and it was barely enough. i then plundered my C2 and other large i didnt lose and called it an event at that point.

these things really do need to be 4-6 hours long, with the same turn settings (ashy was right, these are dead on), and 15 minute DP, it actually lasts a little longer, its 15 min and then you wait for the server to refresh, which is to the next 5 min or so i guess. plenty of time to finish a few research projects, or a few lvls of infra, are collect a new C1 of anything you feel desperate enough to cluster (i aim for 500+. its a C1 to last you 4 hrs, not set a UW off with), and then get thrown back into the maelstrom of killing machines before you choke up another set of borders for the coll/marus and get a bit more done.

its not often i get to pull the old curmudgeon card, but back in my day when these things were invented, they were short, fast, and furious at the rates people chased each others clusters to gain those extra 10 planets before time was called. makes me sad that accordex didnt attend this one, she was always on top of her game for these things.

Won`t fit

In all seriousness ,war that`s just silly.
The top 2 richest empires on the DM, and 4-7 are all A miners, the richest of them tax. It`s blasted silly easy to play a tax miner on the DM.

minerals were done fairly well i thought. the cheaper the better i say, as it will encourage fighting. same planet scenario as above, a.miner with 2 C2s having 30000 land, 50 levels into mining but all the land on industry rakes in 2.6 mil creds a turn selling CGs at 3 and minerals at 700. having said that, i think the price of minerals should be 800. allowing for a max of 2.9mil creds a turn at 799, and a min at 1.5mil creds a turn at 350, the lowest i saw them go. figure at 600, the average sale would probably land around 500. again, id like to see these numbers if the admin dont mind collecting the data somehow. or if someone is willing to parse the raw data admins could provide, any of you tech savvy GC addicts out there.

second, on getting free ships,
guardian get 1 of 3 k class for free, and have to research 50k turns to get the rest. a.miners have to spend 1850 turns on top of everything else for their g class, and virals dont use any turns, but rely on high frequency of battles to get ships. virals first, decrease the DP to 15 minutes and virals will have no trouble at all getting their ships. im not sure how much control admin have, but if they can see how far along each research project you are, then would it be possible to award the k class after 2500 turns into each one? that brings it more into line with g class and much more reasonable for a DM server. ditto for any other crazy research if there is any. i dont think coll/maru have anything like this.

two more things. sorry this is becoming a rant.

first, the market,
let me describe a hypothetical i developed in excel. agriterran, tax miner, vs cg miner (the strongest representers of their kind, the theorhetical maxes) at 50 planets and 30k land, with 50 levels of single research (hous, indus, OR agri), loyalty at 1500, (any higher is very difficult to maintain with that much combat and rampant starvation) with the market fixed at food=11, RM=3, and CG=4 (thats right). agriterrans make 2.3mil selling food=10 and RM=2, tax miners make 2.3-2.6 mil creds a turn with food=10/11 and CG=3/4, and CG miner make 2.7mil creds per turn with CG=3 and RM=1-3. id be interested to see the market statistics; table, left side is item (CG,RM,food) and top is price (numbers 1-13), and in each cell is the quantity sold at that price for the entire DM. it would give us a better grasp on this dynamic and would help us pick more fair values in the future. figure all other race/econ combinations will be more challenged than these examples (as they should be) and so it should be a nice balanced reflection of the relationships established on the other servers.
