Dunno why Raistilin closed the thread since there seemed to be a really good discussion going on and it appeared quite civil. However, here are the poll questions with results:

1) 2-3x increase of buildrate under a 1 week trial
Would apply to all servers would need to hear the good and bad for all sides of this

For 1, we had a total of 18.

2) Leave it as is due to implications due to x
Please include reasons if you would.

For 2, we had 6

3) Some other option
Be detailed

2, Plus 3 unknown/undecided.

Of course, if I miscounted, by all means feel free to modify or protest. I provide the original link.

Now for my 2 cents (more like 50 hehe).

Reading all the responses, I find that doing a 2x increase is probably best. However, if we do a trial, then it MUST be for an extended period of time in order to gauge its true effectiveness, not simply 2-3 weeks. Otherwise, you get what Omegian referred to: people using the opportunity to use their BTC to build up, then VM build for months until the effects wear out (thus getting extra bang out of their BTC for UW purposes).

The reason why I feel this would truly benefit the game is because the game is about stacking. However, base PR and turn/br limitations are a significant barrier to stacking. Therefore, in order to promote stacking, you have to make stacking more than a one-shot deal for these "planet hoarders". It also decreases the relevance of base PR (which ends around 10m pr unless you have an INSANE empire) and focuses on the true focus which is BATTLE.

One last note. If you`re smart, increasing BR makes ship building if you aim for the same PR. Extreme example: 500 turns building 1 herc is FAR more expensive then 1 turn building 500 herc due to UPKEEP.

I will break this down in the next post

Ragnarok, you counted Deamon666 twice :P And also I was in favor of the trial, just to see what it would be like, I just wasn`t sure if it would be more beneficial or harmful to the game.

1 question why wasn`t my vote counted it was my idea afterall

Didn`t have a chance to vote earlier, so here`s my two cents. Leave it alone for the following reasons:

1. Don`t know about other servers, but there is a mineral shortage on RT, this will just make it harder for new players and races that go through a lot of minerals (terran, some virals, miners that don`t make their own minerals).
2. Some in the other thread mentioned that it may result in more high PR fighting and rich/established empires could burn their resources. They aren`t doing it now, what makes one think that things will change if the buildrates are increased? Those that are at the top now will just go higher.
3. As many mentioned, this will just increase the disparity between buildrates of the races.
4. The max PR will not change, making UWs harder. People already complain that UWs don`t happen often enough and this will discourage people from trying to set one off.

im leaning more and more to 2x for guard 3x for the rest

Another benefit to increased BR:

More turns for empire development and research if you don`t go too crazy with the power leveling. If you want to remain at 1m pr, you can, but takes fewer turns to build the same fleet.

This can only help the new player (or any player) who wants to actually play the game and battle but still make his empire better.

Also wish to note that Serperior (who is a guide and voted no, but I forgot to annotate) made some points I wish to respond to:

" I think it benefits planet hoarders/older players more as compared to new players, since they can built a fleet twice as fast from a million power rating, new players will just get sniped and unable to catch older players that can easily climb up the rank due to the income they have amassed."

"New empires would not be able to sustain the fleet they can built and thus will fall prey to older players eventually as both empire race up the ranks"

This is true regardless of build rate. It neither helps nor aggravates the problem in my estimation. They just have to get better or find another game. It`s just a shame they tend to choose the latter, but I digress.

"Collectives in general will get alot scarier since their small but dangerous ships will now see much more action in the million power rating. I can see how every additional multiplier would make Collectives ever more scary. Not sure if this would reduce the appeal of Marauders slightly as a result."

So the "newbie PR" would shift from below 1-8m pr (depending on server) to below 2-16m pr. Collectives tend to be scary at "newbie PR" levels. If the "planet hoarders" are so scared, they can easily build to 30m+ pr and 2x them to their hearts delight....if they dare. ^_^

"However i would like to caution any updates that does not help new players visibly since without new players this game will eventually be a less vibrant place."

It`s not about "helping new players" get some insane advantage as it is making the game more fun. If the game were more fun and dynamic, people might stay longer.

We`re not proposing anything silly. It`s only a 2x increase. Last time we did this was from 4x increase and the response was generally positive, till it ended, then we got hangovers. xD

Here are the detailed results.

Ragnarok - Yes, 2x, but for an extended period of time (3+ months at least) in order to prevent potential opportunistic people from using BTC all at once and then VMing until things return to normal and then UW (thus resulting in the UW person getting extra value from his BTC). This would gauge the true effects on the game.

Also, for those that want to nerf guard BR, keep in mind guards are generally cash strapped, and increasing BR will only serve to drain resources at a faster rate (if you try to aim for the "clouds"). Not opposed, but not a big fan either of this variation.

Apollo - Yes (for 2x BR)
Ashley - Yes
Deamon666 - Yes for 2x, but thinks 5x better
FISTFULLOFDOLLARS - Yes, but no more than 2x
warmonger11 - Yes
forsakenwolf - Yes
EvilAbadayos (guide) - Yes, but only 2x
meerkatofdoom - Yes
ThoR - Yes
Sadistic{}Interns - Yes, but only 2x
elemental - yes, but skeptical, 2x guards, 3x everyone else
KillerNight - Yes
Uberpansy - Yes
Grantweep - Yes
wingMut - Yes
Renegade (guide) - Yes

Sibiriangun - No
Katulu - No
