GC Revamped

Hello everyone, it’s been a very long time!

Recently I got interested in web design and after reading up on some online tutorials, I decided to recreate my favorite online game, GC!

I added in some of my own ideas (such as player and federation avatars), borrowed some from anfit’s ff extension, and tried to make it more the game more user-friendly and more fun

I have no plans to make this go “live” because I know this is Stephen’s game and it will not be fair to him if I did. But then why did I go through all this trouble? This was a great experience in learning more about website programming and design (and I have no life)…

As of now, the game is not even close to being finished (I don’t know if I ever will). I still have the battle script, federations, capsule lab, and the overmind project to code.

I hope Stephen sees this and make some changes to this game, but I am not betting on it.

youre a very talented individual if you coded that yourself. looks nice enough on top to be potentially better than the platform we are all on right now...

now lets actually make some magic happen because you seem like the individual that wouldnt neglect their game after its release ;)

time, that is the problem, starting this july, i`m going to be extremely busy, so i`d end up being just another stephen

but since everyone seems to like this, i`ll continue to work on it as much as i can

DM, It will have nothing to do with GC anyway since GC in written in ColdFusion, not in PHP

Anyway, I`m available to help out code-wise, and I know some others who`re willing to help as well. It all boils down to you willing to devote the time necessary, and the community to massively make the switch...

If I am doing it, it will be in Silverlight, not in PhP so it will have nothing to do with GC code anyway.

I`d so totally play this game, especially if the management was more active then here (since we`re being pretty much ignored right now). If you ask around you may find plenty of volunteers willing to help you set up/code/admin.
Oh and take a look at anfits mods, especially regarding fleet building etc. you might wanna add those into the base code instead of an external mod.

And indeed I don`t think there`s any copyright anywhere visible on the pages, so I think you could get away with it if you make some changes to ship names and such...

A community of 50 will actually increase if updates are made..

Why cant ac and dm make an android application.. The market is there..

If I quit my job I can make it but I simply have absolutely no time for that grr haha. And a community of 50 people doesn`t seem to be enough to support me financially.

If I get some free time I will do the coding and maybe AC you can do the design part :) I suck at design.

this is very well done AC. i second MD. love the min 1 housing idea and most of the graphics. if you invent new ship names and planet types and colours etc then i dont see the problem to creating a fully functional game out of it. GC is not the only online text based game around and i dont recall seeing a copyright sign anywhere before...great work

i don`t think i can, because even though I coded this from the ground up, the original ideas are still stephen`s... i don`t really want to mess with someone else`s livelihood (my financial situation is pretty good right now and i don`t want to take something away from someone)..

also you overestimate my capabilities as a programmer... 3 months ago i didn`t even know what PHP was, there is no way i`d be capable of running a full blown site... i`m in college about to start clinical rotations on a health care field (no relation to computers lol), so i`m a complete newbie when it comes to this type of stuff...

but if gc ever does bite the dust, then i`d be more than happy to get this running (or at least leave it to someone that is more experienced)

so one thing every spacecrack addicts can be assured of is that this game won`t die even if stephen pulls the plug :)

Maybe if he was held at gun point, but maybe ... i think he will say I dont know how to code.

If you could make this GC clone playable and are willing to spend time in setting up a sustainable environment (admins, etc...). I would buy a paid (provided that paids work the same way as this GC.
