Epic Movies versus Epic Fails

Alright this thread is about movies that the majority of people would say are among the greatest movies of all time. The movies that everyone talks about when they come out, that become the highlight of conversations every where. you hear about them nonstop until they finally die out. Movies that, while not necessarily being "epic movies" in the literal term, have a big impact on the community`s social network.

Some movies don`t live up to the hype, others exceed it. Let me know your opinions on movies like this and whether or not you thought they were an Epic Movie or an Epic Fail :)


I will get it started with two highly talked about movies I`ve saw fairly recently.

First, Inception. Some would say that it keeps you guessing, that the plot keeps you asking "wtf?" People everywhere talk about how hard the movie is to follow and how you have to watch it more than once to get what`s going on. I saw it only to be disappointed. In one of the opening scenes the ENTIRE movie is clearly explained. There was literally no mystery, nothing to second guess. It was, from beginning to end, a really simple movie to follow with absolutely nothing that stood out as "mysterious" or confusing. This movie was good, in the sense that it was worth watching if you like movies, but far from epic. = Epic Fail

i didn`t like avatar. for the amount of time and money invested in the movie i thought it was pretty horrid, oh yes cat people an original, yes lets make a statement about imperialism and driving out native populations, again original. it took him 10 years to make a movie that in my opinion was on par with perhaps District 9. entertaining to some degree, while still not that great, he could have invested the time more wisely and made a trilogy and actually developed more depth. the pretty colors were the best part (not the graphics) just the pretty colors themselves, much like Speed Racer the movie. i could think of 10 video games story lines that would make a better movie.

One of my favorites is V for Vendetta. Because it explains fairly complicated but great ideas in an easy and interesting way. Also the brilliant poetry and dramatic touches give me chills.

Generally I prefer to watch old classics. You can be sure they are good, because 99% of all movies made back in the day have disappeared because they were crab, only the truly brilliant one`s remained watchable. With new movies its always a gamble, because 99% will be crab, it`s hard to find the one great one.

Loof LOL! That was funny to read even though parts of it didn`t add up.

As for The Matrix Trilogy, you didn`t really give any details Colebourn. Although that movie does belong in this thread. The first one was truly Epic, the later ones kind of throw sh-t on the original. Although, all 3 movies was fun to watch. Cool fight sequences, interesting concept, and clever dialogue. That movie, unlike Inception, did actually leave you trying to grasp everything that was being said, at least in the (second?) one in which it is revealed that The Matrix AND the "real world" are both simply repeated stories and ultimately neither are real. I liked how it took the concept of "reality" (as we know it) to the next level and said that even if we escape The Matrix, we are still blind to the truth. It was a cool concept because many people often question what is real and is there really such a thing as reality at all. = Epic Movie

Raist You aren`t the first person that disagreed with the epicness of Avatar. Truly any movie, no matter how epic, will have people that just don`t like it or find it that interesting. Thank you for being the only person that actually somewhat addressed the topic lol.

Space Balls was entertaining, far from epic but far from epic fail as well.

Monty Python = Epic Win. They heavily influenced comedy and put out so much great content that, while I can`t really think of anything that stood out, they were truly epic in the amount of good material (and lack of bad material) that they produced. A very good suggestion, though the name of a particular movie and some insight on it would have been nice.

Wow this is probably one of the most unrelated comments to a thread ever. Most of the movies you all are naming I have either never heard of, or were never that popular. I guess all of you are Epic Fails :)

Only thing I enjoyed about Avatar was Bluray + 55" LED in my living room. Put it on mute and just watch the graphics.

Inception was cool. The part where they were running along the walls in the Hotel? Epic...
