Alright this thread is about movies that the majority of people would say are among the greatest movies of all time. The movies that everyone talks about when they come out, that become the highlight of conversations every where. you hear about them nonstop until they finally die out. Movies that, while not necessarily being "epic movies" in the literal term, have a big impact on the community`s social network.

Some movies don`t live up to the hype, others exceed it. Let me know your opinions on movies like this and whether or not you thought they were an Epic Movie or an Epic Fail :)

I will get it started with two highly talked about movies I`ve saw fairly recently.

First, Inception. Some would say that it keeps you guessing, that the plot keeps you asking "wtf?" People everywhere talk about how hard the movie is to follow and how you have to watch it more than once to get what`s going on. I saw it only to be disappointed. In one of the opening scenes the ENTIRE movie is clearly explained. There was literally no mystery, nothing to second guess. It was, from beginning to end, a really simple movie to follow with absolutely nothing that stood out as "mysterious" or confusing. This movie was good, in the sense that it was worth watching if you like movies, but far from epic. = Epic Fail

Well, about avatar...

I was rooting for the humans all movie long, and then it ended the way it did... Cat people flying on dinosaurs wielding spears defeat an entire fleet of gunships. Not only that, but the humans suddenly(and conveniently) lost all their tactical missiles so they had to run in guns blazing instead of just nuking them from orbit...

I`m still hoping for a sequal where humanity returns with an entire fleet and absolutely rapes the cat people.
See that, that`s emotional connection to the characters right there, only to the characters you`re NOT supposed to be connected to. If this happens it`s what they call bad character development, and to a degree, a bad movie...

Given, sci-fi per se. I would have to say Star Trek. For it`s time of Kirk and the old movies it was a leap of future "idea". Yet we still talk about it one way or another.

Anime wise I think everyone knows a good Akira or Macross movie when they see it. I am going to hate it when they finally green lit a Live Action movie of Akira or DBZ for that matter.

300 anyone? anyone?

I loved Avatar, and I think the reasons people have for disliking it are laughable. It is so easy to dislike movies or discount hype that most people go into movies with an attitude that will not allow them to truly enjoy it. Whether or not a movie is good does not matter if you aren`t willing to buy into the story. A lot of people just aren`t willing to go there emotionally or intellectually. Those people should not talk about movies.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother`s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Momento was good, but Count of Monte Cristo was better.

also, from Pulp Fiction -- What... does Marcellus Wallace LOOK LIKE!?

I don`t know if anyone mentioned these. They aren`t all that mainstream or "talked about", but still among the best movies I`ve seen. Requiem for a Dream and Memento.

V for Vendetta was an epic movie indeed. I loved that movie so much, and not just for the political/real world implications.. when the town marched on the government building my whole body was shaking. That movie grips you at the very core.. I love the build up of the whole thing. "V" was the kind of person we need all around the world today.. someone to really get the people thinking. Realistic and less poetic version of V being wikileaks. :)

Shattered I will give you that for 10 years and a Massive budget, Avatar was only on par with other movies. The colors were brilliant, I enjoyed them very much. I hope we don`t have to wait 10 more years for the sequel.. and hopefully the plot is a little more original. And sure, the concept and theme and all that has been done a hundred times before, but in my opinion, Avatar told it better than most. Besides, aliens versus humans where humans LOSE? Epic win by itself imo.

Pulp Fiction, one of those epic movies I have yet to watch. That is another one widely talked about and comes up most times a lengthy debate about good movies comes up anywhere. I would like to see it so that I can see what the hype is about. I caught 3 minutes perhaps at some part of the movie and it didn`t do it for me, but then there are plenty of movies that you just wouldn`t like at all unless you caught it from the beginning.. so I would love to watch the whole thing some time.

The Narnia series as a whole is really enjoyable. I like how they mix fairy tale with real world situations in a way that makes it fun for the whole family. Not really into "feel good" movies, but the series is good. I would have to agree with you though Uber, for all the fantasy and awesomeness of the prior Narnia`s, this one seemed kind of average.. if I wasn`t a fan of the Narnia series already, I probably would`ve just thought it was just average. Not enough mystery and awe that you come to expect with Narnia. "Find the swords, save the world" *ya
