Final Exams

So I know there are a lot of people in the midst of studying for and taking final exams right now.... I figured we might as well have a place to discuss such topics.

Anyone have any studying tips or pointers they can share?

Anyone have any very frustrating classes \ professors they want to vent about?

Anyone sick and tired of studying and just want it all to go away?

Anyone excited that finals are here and love the process \ stress of studying and taking exams?

Well, that`s all fine and good, but a lot of the classes I usually see no point in are usually the core classes that have nothing to do with my major. =/

But I do agree that you have to like your major.

The trick is to like your major. If you do, you will study with joy. But most of the students are not well oriented and usually see no point in many classes. When they meet the real business, then they understand the long boring frustrating classes they attended are actually very important ones.

Well Knight, depends on the classes you`re taking, and yeah in lower division coursework there are a lot of not-smarts... but by the time you get to upper division most of them have dropped out.... and if you take upper division hard science \ math courses they can be very challenging.

Or if you were hardcore in IB or AP in high school like I was you will realize that college is 9273581742x easier and that some of the people are xING not-smart :P

well get ready for an eye opener when you get to college, if you go.... i was an amazing student in high school, never studied, never had to.... got to college and wow did I have to learn to study fast or fail hard. better to learn to study now while in HS and make the adjustment to college that much easier.... and why not try harder and shoot for #1... forget #6!!

Guess what i do to study put the music up loud and just play video games like no other and yet i`m the ranked number 6 out of 259 students in 10th grade.

I mainly teach them how to fuse organic bases.... and if they`re lucky how to assimilate and cluster. I try to stay away from the u fertiles though!!

Oh yes of course, the abundance of beautiful women is one of the best perks of college. And being one of the best students they usually want to be my "study partner."

Knight, yeah roommates can be a pain.... if you have to go to a coffee shop or the library.... or put on some headphones..... or maybe pay someone to silence your roommate?

Congrats aacra, that must feel very good! I`ve got upper div stats next semester at 730am.... not looking forward to it.

Raist.... yeah work is not nearly as rewarding as school for me... plus at school you get to meet lots of new people every semester....

Haha Hellus, yes ideally you should be studying at least a little every week for the entire semester, makes things a lot easier when you get to the end and you already have a very good grasp on what`s going down in the class.

Yes, abuse lots of caffeine

And don`t wait until the night before to study especially when you have 3 finals in 24hrs. It really sucks, lol.

I`ve been working for almost a decade now, and all my friends of my same age are finishing up college. I see how i`ve gotten farther than any of them, with a house, job, means to do almost anything i want. Know what sucks? i still don`t get 3 months off for summer. I want my bloody vacations back. I miss having a certifiable ` goal ` to obtain. School always gives you that. Prep for this test, prep for the quiz, make sure you study to pass this course , that then leads on to the next course that`s harder. All is one giant goal machine that you yourself can accomplish by being diligent and studying. Work kills all of that for you , even in the consulting industry where it`s harder to get, maintain, and succeed at the job. All in all I know i`ve not given any tips to help with learning, i`m just saying / ranting i miss it.

I`d like my roommate to stop being loud obnoxious and turning on the tv when he`s not watching it... he hasn`t xing done it all semester and I`m sorry that I`m taking 18 credits and care about getting As in all of them but wtf use some god dang common sense.

Good advice Arch.... and yeah I took a long break off school and only worked and I really missed it.... there is nothing like it and all the studying and stress leading to decent grades and making progress is very rewarding for me.

And I like to study at a coffee shop, I have a hard time at home where there is people and my computer and things to distract me. I bring my ipod and headphones in case people are being too loud or they are playing holiday music that I can`t stand.

So a few things I have done for this final exams.... I stopped drinking any alcohol or consuming any such drugs for about 2 weeks prior to finals to help clear up my head... also I started exercising more as I can study better on days, and days after, I exercise.

And I use caffeine and adderall (a medication for people with ADD) to study, they help me tremendously. I use very little of both though. I am prescribed 20mg`s of adderall per day.... but I break up the pills into quarters and take 5 mg`s at a time, which I find to be plenty and never take more then 10-15mg`s in a day. And I never use either for too many days straight. This week being the week prior to exams I stopped using both for several days to drop my tolerance down, that way this weekend and finals week I can get the most out of both supplements.

I hated exam.. but i love it at the same time, since that`s the final lap before the BIG GOOD REST..

you cant get that from work, where u work on and on and on without any long stress-free rest.. i missed school :S

Tips: Get away from all noise, mp3, tv, comp, phone, etc.. only have a study material with you and jus get down to it... then give urself a small reward at the end of the day...
